2019.\u00a0His\u00a0pioneering\u00a0work on world systems theory laid the foundation for\u00a0generations\u00a0of scholars in global and transnational sociology.\u00a0<\/p><p class=\"font_8\">Wallerstein&#8217;s thinking was forged during the twenty years he spent travelling in Africa during\u00a0the 1950s and 1960s, observing and\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/sociology.yale.edu\/publications\/africa-politics-independence-and-unity\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">researching<\/a><a href=\"https:\/\/sociology.yale.edu\/publications\/africa-politics-independence-and-unity\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u00a0<\/a>the continent&#8217;s mass movements for decolonization. Throughout his subsequent intellectual career, Wallerstein inspired students to think\u00a0globally, historically, and\u00a0critically about the origins and causes of social inequalities through capital accumulation. Alongside his three part magnum opus,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ucpress.edu\/book\/9780520267572\/the-modern-world-system-i\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">The Modern World-System<\/a>, his other notable works include\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/nyupress.org\/9780853458081\/transforming-the-revolution\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Transforming the Revolution<\/a>\u00a0(with Amin, Arrighi, and Frank),\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.versobooks.com\/books\/510-race-nation-class\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Race, Nation, Class<\/a>\u00a0(with\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/search?tbo=p&amp;tbm=bks&amp;q=inauthor:%22%C3%89tienne+Balibar%22\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u00c9tienne\u00a0<\/a>Balibar), and\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/thenewpress.com\/books\/after-liberalism\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">After Liberalism<\/a><a href=\"https:\/\/thenewpress.com\/books\/after-liberalism\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">.<\/a><\/p><p class=\"font_8\"><span class=\"wixGuard\">\u200b<\/span>In addition to\u00a0his scholarly work, Wallerstein maintained a blog where he posted twice a month.
